Corvus (Crow)

Month Best Visible

May

Hemisphere Visible

Southern

Four prinicipal stars form an asterism known as 'the Spica's Spanker' or 'the Snail'. The centre of Corvus is home to a planetary nebula NGC 4361. The nebula itself resembles a small elliptical galaxy, but the magnitude 13 center star gives away its true nature.

In Greek Mythology, Corvus was Apollo's sacred bird with snowy white feathers. Asigned to watch over his pregnant love Coronis reported how she was unfaithful. In Apollo's anger, he turned the crows feathers black and took away his voice.
